October 2020: The 33 by Jonathan Franklin
You can find a copy of The 33 here.
The Chilean Miners - remember them?
Ten years ago, thirty-three miners were at work in a mine when the collapsed.
Unbeknown to the miners, who had to prepare themselves for a slow and agonising death, one of the world's largest rescue operations swung into action. No contact could be made for the first two weeks to even find out if the men were alive, but after 17 days, a drill reached them. They sent a note back to the surface: 'We are well inside the shelter, the 33'.
However, that was just the beginning of the story. It would take almost two more months before the men could be rescued from the mine. This book tells of the hope, worries, struggles and personalities that helped bring the miners out alive.
There is also a film, but I'd recommend reading the book first. You can find The 33 here.
